“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:35

Operation Love Your Neighbor (OLYN) is FUMC's community ministry program.  As a church family our purpose is "to know Christ and to make Him known".  Our Lord has called us to be His hands, His feet and His heart in loving service to members of our community, especially those who are the most vulnerable.  We bear witness to the gospel message clearly and effectually when we are living demonstrations of the Spirit of Christ, manifesting His presence to our community through loving service to others.

Jesus was asked: "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments." (Matt. 26:36-40)

Why is OLYN so special?

Through OLYN we partner with over 20 non-profit organizations in Indian River County that minister to families and children who are underserved and in need of God's love and compassion.

We are blessed to be a church family that embodies a culture of service.  As a ministry program, OLYN seeks to provide focus and direction for our church members.  Individuals who invested their time and energy in serving local ministries have graciously volunteered to serve as ministry team leaders.

Everyone in our church family regardless of age, physical ability, interest, or giftedness is called to serve as an ambassador for Christ.  OLYN service teams, with a variety of project and work options provide opportunity for everyone to be engaged in ministry to others.

OLYN service teams seek to come alongside those ministries where the Lord is already at work.  Jesus promises to everyone who is faithful with little, more will be given.  Through service to OLYN ministries, the people of God experience the joy of the Lord as they lovingly embody His presence in the community.

Cookie Bakers

We need volunteers who are willing to bake cookies for the Salvation Army community feeding program.

Each week at the Salvation Army our church family prepares 150 hot meals for homeless and low income members of our community. FUMC’s homemade cookies are a treat that our guests enjoy! Plastic cookie containers are available at the church office for bakers to pick up.

Please return cookies in these containers or in zip-lock bags. Some of the people we serve have food allergies, so No Nuts Please! Thank you for your love and support of our homeless and low-income neighbors.

VBE Greeters

The Principal of Vero Beach Elementary (VBE) has invited the FUMC church members to continue our greeting of students as they arrive at school.  We will be greeting students on Tuesday mornings in front of the school and at the bus loop.

We will use our voices and handcrafted posters to communicate our love and encouragement to the VBE staff, children, and families. All FUMC greeters should wear a face mask and an OLYN shirt. We will assemble at the entrance to the school (1770 12th Street) on Tuesdays at 7:45 am to pray, to receive posters and further instructions. Greeting time will end around 9:00 am.

Imagine what the children and staff will feel when a throng of OLYN visitors cheer them on!  Help us share the love, joy, and peace of Christ with our friends at VBE.
