“By this everyone will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.”  John 13:35

Operation Love Your Neighbor (OLYN) is FUMC's community ministry program.  As a church family our purpose is "to know Christ and to make Him known".  Our Lord has called us to be His hands, His feet and His heart in loving service to members of our community, especially those who are the most vulnerable.  We bear witness to the gospel message clearly and effectually when we are living demonstrations of the Spirit of Christ, manifesting His presence to our community through loving service to others.

Jesus was asked: "Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?" Jesus replied, "You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important: Love your neighbor as yourself.  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments." (Matt. 26:36-40)

Why is OLYN so special?

Through OLYN we partner with over 20 non-profit organizations in Indian River County that minister to families and children who are underserved and in need of God's love and compassion.

We are blessed to be a church family that embodies a culture of service.  As a ministry program, OLYN seeks to provide focus and direction for our church members.  Individuals who invested their time and energy in serving local ministries have graciously volunteered to serve as ministry team leaders.

Everyone in our church family regardless of age, physical ability, interest, or giftedness is called to serve as an ambassador for Christ.  OLYN service teams, with a variety of project and work options provide opportunity for everyone to be engaged in ministry to others.

OLYN service teams seek to come alongside those ministries where the Lord is already at work.  Jesus promises to everyone who is faithful with little, more will be given.  Through service to OLYN ministries, the people of God experience the joy of the Lord as they lovingly embody His presence in the community.

Salvation Army

For the last  several years our church family supported the Salvation Army “Red Kettle” ministry by ringing at the Walmart Neighborhood Market on US Highway 1 (located north of 17th Street between CVS and Sonic). The funds raised through Red Kettle donations are used to purchase food and drink for our homeless feeding programs on Wednesday and Thursday of each week.

Bell Ringers are needed from November 21st - December 24th. You can sign up on Sundays in the back of the church or contact the church office at 772-562-1900.

Shining Light Garden

The sweet potato crops at Shining Light Garden have been spectacular this year and they are in need of hands to harvest.   Volunteers are needed Saturday, November 21st at 8:00 AM. If interested contact Tim Calahan at 772-532-5224 or show up at Shining Light Garden at 7275 49th St. Vero Beach, Florida 32967.

Little Birthday Angels

November is National Homeless Youth Awareness Month.  Indian River County Schools document 300-400 registered homeless youth and St. Lucie County has over 1,300 homeless youth.  Little Birthday Angels (LBA) works with all the schools in Indian River County, several schools in St. Lucie County and four local shelters to provide Birthday Bags of Hope! These special bags are made possible by donations of money, time and birthday gifts.  This year OLYN/FUMC is sponsoring a LBA birthday wish list tree.

Stop by in the CLC lobby and pick out an ornament with a wish list gift item that needs to be fulfilled!  Gifts can be brought to the church office or CLC.    We are trying to fill 50 wishes by the end of November.   If you have any questions, please email Lynn Kiefer at kieferlynn@bellsouth.net

1 Peter 4:10 - As each one has recieved a special gift, employ it serving one another as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.
